Capacity-building training on child labour and SDGs for teacher union from Mali

From 6-10 November, two representatives from the Syndicat national de l'éducation et de la culture(SNEC) attended a one-week training workshop at the ILO’s Training Centre in Turin, Italy. The training focused on the connections between the SDGs of the 2030 Education Agenda and the eradication of child labour.

Workshop on unity in Kenya

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), attended a unity workshop in Mombasa, from 14-16 November. They discussed the unity efforts among affiliates in Kenya, i.e. KNUT, the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), and the Universities' Academic Staff Union (UASU). The NEC resolved to take concrete steps towards unity, including the formation of a single teachers’ union within an agreed timeline and to work together to build trust, harmonisation, and partnership around the merger process.

SRGBV Symposium in Senegal

A Learning Symposium on SRGBV was co-hosted by UNICEF and UNESCO in Dakar, from 27-29 November. Member organisations of the Global Working Group to End SRGBV, jointly convened by UNESCO and UNICEF, analysed new learning emerging from the field. In addition, practitioners and researchers, together with ministries of education and education unions, outlined the next steps to accelerate efforts to eliminate SRGBV.

Representatives from EI member organisations, the Ethiopian Teachers Association, the National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (NAPTOSA) and the South African Democratic Teachers' Union (SADTU), participated in the exchanges. Lucy Barimbui represented EI.
